Dear Friends and Supporters,
Nonprofit organizations have a special ingredient. It’s called our Board of Directors. Talented, giving people from the community come forth with their business sense and expertise to offer advice, share relationships, bring perspective, and infuse creativity to bolster the work of non-profits. I often say that my Board is my HR office, my planning department, my financial advisors, my legal counsel, not to mention, my personal moral support team. They are people I rely upon, admire, and deeply respect. I also say the toughest part about being a non-profit executive is saying goodbye to board members when their terms come to a close.
So here I am, saying thank you and goodbye to two extraordinary board members.
Mark Boitano joined Hospice Giving Foundation’s board in July 2010. He has served as Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Chair of Investment Advisory Committee, Chair of Grants, and was a steadfast advisor on several negotiations and special projects. As the new CEO in 2013, I could turn to Mark for insights on investments, operations, and challenges that were new to my landscape.
Nanci Markey joined Hospice Giving Foundation’s board in 2011. She was Board Chair, Vice-Chair, Chair of Grants, Chair (or some would say, ‘Empress’) of the Party/Scramble, as well as a deeply dedicated ambassador for all things Hospice Giving Foundation. There was never a time when I could not call upon Nanci to bounce off ideas or help me problem solve.
Mark Boitano and Nanci Markey conducted countless grantee visits, made our work at HG Foundation more successful, impactful, and relevant. They capped off their dedication with tremendous generosity.
Best practice, non-profit governance encourages boards to have term limits to make space for new talent and fresh ideas. Under the leadership of Bill Tebbe, Board Chair, we proudly welcome Cammie Brodie, Barbara Collins, Kim DiBenedetto, and John Lewis to our board beginning in July 2018. They too will share their knowledge, outlook, and keen desire to make a powerful impact in our community.
As I said, we have a special ingredient here at HG Foundation and I am proud every day to work for this fine board. I hope you will join me in thanking them for their dedication to our community.
With warm regards,
Siobhan M Greene, President/CEO
PS – We’ve established the ‘Champions of Care Fund’ to honor those who serve on our Board of Directors as well as others who touch our lives. It’s a new and lovely way to say thanks to someone special!
