CEO Message: January 2024

Dear Friends,

The passage of time from one year to the next is supposed to be about change, aspirations, and motivators to move forward and grow. It is list-making time, new calendars, fresh plans, and generally high expectations. Personally, I rarely make those lists and avoid pressuring myself with plans or targets that may or may not pan out. I find the new year more of a ‘take-a- breather’ time, a period of thought and contemplation, reviewing the past year, and finding ways to celebrate the good and accept the difficult moments.

Nonetheless, I am in the planning business, at least to a degree. I’ve repeatedly said that Hospice Giving Foundation’s believes a healthy community is one in which people are better prepared, have plans, and understand the options and resources available to them during serious illness and through end of life. So, yes, I do promote planning, but for me, it is best done within the context of thoughtful reflection and meaningful conversations.

I am very certain, however, that our wonderful team does have a lot planned for you in 2024 that will reach widely into the community—education, workshops, luncheons, the beloved golf scramble, and more. Every Spring we begin our annual grantmaking process that is so gratifying. The generosity of our supporters and donors makes the work possible and, to you, we are deeply appreciative.

Back to my new year’s reflection… one of the things I love the most about my role with Hospice Giving Foundation is that the work is steeped in compassion. This starts with the basic premise of the work, but it is most brilliantly illuminated by the wonderful people involved. Our relationships with the clinicians and practitioners who bring their heart and soul into peoples’ lives are a source of great pride. Our experiences are rich, and we learn through our collaborative work with the clinicians and relationships with grantees. The Board of Directors who give of themselves so much, and wisely guide the organization, along with our fine team who bring their energy, compassion, and love to this every day, make this organization work. They collectively fill me.

As I take my new year’s breather, I feel the warmth of gratitude for all who have graced me, and Hospice Giving Foundation, with support, friendship, and wisdom. You have been here for me through the past year, and many years. I promise Hospice Giving Foundation is here for you, as well, for many, many years to come.

Happy New Year to all!

With gratitude,
