“I couldn’t imagine going through what I went through without palliative care as part of my team.” - Christine, palliative care recipient
The premier season of the podcast “A Quality Life” features real stories of seriously ill patients whose lives improved once they began to receive palliative care.
The web series, from GetPalliativeCare.org, gives listeners a chance to hear firsthand about the benefits of palliative care from patients, their families, and doctors. A variety of disease types are represented, including ovarian, colon, and breast cancer, pulmonary hypertension, multiple myeloma, lupus, and congestive heart failure.
The first episode features Christine, a woman who was struggling to deal with the stress and pain caused by ovarian cancer and chemotherapy.
Her palliative care team helped her manage her pain and provided emotional support throughout the entire process. They even made it possible for her to go on a skiing trip with her family in the middle of treatment -- something Christine never would have thought would be possible.
